Trippy Art from a Boring Image

I took this photo of a fire pit in Maine. I like the texture but it’s not that exciting of a photo as is [please click on photos to view detail]:

I brought the photo into a LAB color space in Photoshop, added some adjustment layers, kicked up the contrast and sharpness, and flipped the image and got this:

With some more flipping and blending options, we now have what appears to be a demon holding a crystal ball. Don’t see it? Maybe the future holds no imagination for you.

I once had an iguana named Jim “MoJo” Morrison. He was fabulous, as I’m sure you gathered from his name. He lived in my basement. This image was created with a photo of the backstairs leading down to my basement. Thrilling, I know. Please contain or contaminate yourself.
